ECO-POLICY

With a commitment to preserve the environment, we have taken a several measures to make sure that every thing that we do is eco-friendly, save energy, reduce pollution, and reduce cutting down of trees etc. e.g.- The cottages that we have are built using wooden sections from old houses that were being demolished, where-by we saved a heritage structure, saved the ancient architecture, we saved trees by not using new wood etc. The roof of our cottages are made of traditional hand woven "paya" which is eco friendly ,cooling, it preserves ancient style, provides income to the tribals and the scarce traditional workers who still continue this type of weaving. This craft and profession is getting obsolete because of lack of demand, and support from people.

I can proudly say I am the one of the very few person who have gone out of my way to see that income is generated for these people, and their profession or job is preserved and have tried to do what I can to help them, by using this material I have totally cut off the use of wood for paneling thereby saved a green environment for tomorrow. Even for repair works we try our best to use old wood i.e. resurrected from other structures, furniture etc.

We use solar heaters saving conventional energy since maximum power is used for heating water, For cooking purposes we still use gas, along with coconut shells, and twigs and waste wood that is found in the garden, so that usage of gas is minimized. energy saving bulbs are used where possible. Income generated is used to maintain these ancient Heritage structures/cottages that are more than 200 years old and my ancient house which is more than 110 years old, since it is mostly wooden it is expensive to maintain.

The tiles used on top are also old tiles purchased and re-used. The ancient barn that used to be home for 20 cows has been upgraded and preserved and now serves as the reception, reading area and restaurant. Waste is used in composting pit to convert into manure, reducing chemical fertiliser etc,

Rain water is preserved in the pond and the small lake to maintain the water table and is also used for the garden. Pesticides and chemical fertilizers are avoided to the maximum. Natural pest control is employed like turmeric powder, neem leaf, smoking of spices and medicinal plants,

Ayurveda centre for massage is provided where ancient art and science is preserved It also generates income for the ancient practitioners and their helpers. Latest low flush toilets are used to reduce water consumption, local people are employed for jobs,

Traditional building methods are employed, guests are encouraged to buy locally, We also have a Nursery for medicinal herbs, flowering plants and spices. Fruit plants and trees are organically manured. We have trees that are more than hundred years old, well preserved and still yielding fruit, varieties of birds have made Pooppallys their home and a lot of them live in our garden.

There is so much more to write. since we have taken pain to see than everything is eco-friendly, and since we live in the same compound we are able to maintain it like that. People who take so much trouble to do these kind of things are rare. The Central Government of India has approved our property as a heritage and is including it in its "grahasthali" program.
We contribute our best to the preservation of the ancient architecture and heritage.

We try our best to use only eco-friendly materials. We buy most of the products like fish and poultry from local people thereby benefiting the locality. Vegetables needed are bought from organically grown farms. Local people are benefited through the job generation as they are employed. Purchases are done locally i.e. poultry, fish ,vegetables etc. Visitors rent local boats and buy materials and artifacts whereby local people are benefited. Tourists associate with the locals  and employ them as guides and oars men for boat etc
