The tiles used on top are
also old tiles purchased and re-used. The ancient barn that used to be
home for 20 cows has been upgraded and preserved and now serves as the
reception, reading area and restaurant. Waste is used in composting pit to
convert into manure, reducing chemical fertiliser etc,
Rain water is preserved in the pond and the small lake to maintain the water
table and is also used for the garden. Pesticides and chemical fertilizers are avoided to
the maximum. Natural pest control is employed like turmeric powder, neem leaf, smoking of spices and medicinal plants,
Ayurveda centre for massage is provided where ancient art and science is preserved
It also generates income for the ancient practitioners and their helpers. Latest low flush toilets are used to reduce water consumption, local people are employed for jobs,
Traditional building methods are employed, guests are encouraged to buy locally,
We also have a Nursery for medicinal herbs, flowering plants and spices. Fruit plants and trees are organically manured.
We have trees that are more than hundred years old, well preserved and still yielding fruit, varieties of birds have made
Pooppallys their home and a lot of them live in our garden.
There is so much more to write. since we have taken pain to see than everything is eco-friendly,
and since we live in the same compound we are able to maintain it
like that. People who take so much trouble to do these kind of things
are rare. The Central Government of India has approved our property as a heritage and is including it in its "grahasthali" program.
We contribute our best to the preservation of the ancient architecture and heritage.
We try our best to use only eco-friendly materials. We buy most of the products like fish and poultry from local people thereby benefiting the locality. Vegetables
needed are bought from organically grown farms. Local people are benefited through the job generation as
they are employed. Purchases are done locally i.e. poultry, fish ,vegetables
etc. Visitors rent local boats and buy materials and artifacts whereby local people are benefited.
Tourists associate with the locals and employ them as guides and oars men for boat etc
